Part of the tri-drs group at the Sicamous on Okanagan Lake
Late afternoon, pre-race. I have just placed inspirational notes in my friends' transition bags
Among the group: Mike Nelson (pink hair), Tony Lyons (next to Mike), Emily (standing)
My buddies made the wait fun...despite rising tension as start time approached
The morning in Hopkinton waiting at the school was cool, but it warmed up by race time
A hard day of shopping before a hard day of running!
The day before the race...my first time at hallowed ground as a competitor
We are in the athlete's parade on Main Street. Mike is renown for his flamboyant hair at IMC!
Note that the sun is just setting. My time was 12:54:34, a sub-13 hour breakthrough.
This was about mile 17, I think. Note the cobblestone streets, a little hard on the feet in some sections. Also note the close proximity of pedestrians and cars; sometimes they wandered on to the course.
Sherry had trouble finding me at the finish in this amazing piazza.
Sherry never found me here, but she documented finishers walking away from Piazza Santa Croce along the loggia back to the River Arno and the abandoned army barracks where we turned on our chips and picked up our gear bags
I had an excellent swim: no cramping! The new long-sleeved wetsuit helped.
It was a fine day for a fast ride. I went sub-6 hours (5:55:33) for 112 miles for the first time. My new bike, a Cervelo P3, was terrific!
A great time, a deads tradition; great motivation when you ride the pass, struggling, to see your name.
